Modern Fables (JB Hi-Fi Exclusive 180g Vinyl)
Julia Deans made her mark on the New Zealand music scene as Fur Patrol's charismatic and charming frontwoman.
Her first solo release, Modern Fables (2010), marked a departure from the driving rock and anthemic sonic journeys created with Fur Patrol. While there are still moments of rock grandeur, the album reveals a more introspective, acoustic pop side of her songwriting. At times tinged with folk, at others pure balladry, Modern Fables showcases a musical storytelling style that moves and inspires.
Recorded across studios in Berlin, Melbourne, and Christchurch, Modern Fables features contributions from numerous notable New Zealand musicians, including Karl Kippenberger of Shihad, Aaron Tokona of Weta, and Dino Karlis of HDU.
